Laura
Hello there! I’m an engineer and proud cat mom. Originally from Brazil, I moved to Pittsburgh in January 2023. I’m a crochet doll maker (a technique called Amigurumi) and passionate about nature—I love hiking and am exploring bird and flower photography. I’m also a watercolor painting enthusiast and enjoy diving into simple sewing projects. I'll be facilitating a Portuguese Pronunciation learning circle.
Welcome!
Seja bem-vindo(a)!
Thank you for joining this Portuguese Pronunciation Practice circle! I’m Laura, I’m Brazilian, and I’ll be your facilitator.
Just like you, I face challenges with pronunciation—though in my case, it’s with English! I know how tricky it can be to get comfortable with the sounds of a new language.
This circle is a safe and supportive space to practice and improve your pronunciation, but it’s also an opportunity to dive deeper into Brazilian Portuguese. Along the way, we’ll explore:
1. How stress and intonation shape the rhythm of Portuguese
2. Commonly misunderstood or tricky word pairs
3. The cultural richness of the language through music, poetry, and everyday expressions
I can’t wait to get started and help you feel more confident speaking Portuguese. Let’s make this a fun and enriching journey for everyone!
Course materials we'll use
Knowing how to correctly pronounce words when you learn to speak a new language is crucial for speaking it well. It is no different with Portuguese.
We will be using reference material as well as Brazilian music, poetry, and everyday expressions.
